Sprinkled Suga’ Cookies

Have I ever mentioned that I am known for spilling things? It’s not something I exactly want people to know about me but it’s something that I just can’t seem to escape from. Case and point, I have discovered one of the worst things to possibly spill: flour.

When I woke up in the morning to make these cookies I saw I had a voicemail from an unknown number. It turns out I had purchased a brand of flour that is currently being recalled for E. coli contamination and was being notified to discard or return my flour. Working for the health department I know wayyy too much about the dangers of E. coli and I don’t want anything to do with it (nor do I want to become a case that my coworkers have to investigate). Anyways this brings me to my flour spillage…

Sugar Cookie Truffles

Dessert By February 11, 2016 Tags: , , , , No Comments

I have been on quite the hiatus for the past two weeks. I have been M.IA. for a couple of reasons. First, I have been fighting a cold for what seems like forever and have not been up for doing much other than drinking tea.  Secondly, I had my parents in town and have been playing hostess to them. We were lucky enough to go on a ski trip which also took me away for a little. Nonetheless I am back just in time for Valentine’s Day!

If there’s one thing I like about the Valentine’s Day is that it involves chocolate, and lots of it. So I knew I needed to make something chocolatey this week. I settled on making these sugar cookie truffles because of how delicious they sounded and how simple they were to make. While I have no problem making an extravagant dessert, there is something extra sweet about making treats that take no time at all.

Chocolate Crinkle Cookies

Cookies, Dessert By December 4, 2015 Tags: , No Comments

woke up this morning to discover that it’s National Cookie Day so I decided to make some cookies! Well I actually had already planned to make cookies yesterday but it was nice to know I would be making them on the day that’s meant to honor them. I’m suppose to be going to a cookie party/swap later tonight and needed to bake something to bring. As I’m typing this I’m starting to realize that this cookie party was probably purposely planned to be on National Cookie Day and am only now just putting two and two together… Better late than never I guess!

So I decided to bake a cookie recipe given to me by my mother that is always made around the holidays, chocolate crinkle cookies. Little balls of chocolate cookie dough heaven, rolled in powdered sugar, and then baked til they “crackle” on the outside. How could anyone say no to that?

Halloween Cut-Out Sugar Cookies

Cookies By November 1, 2015 Tags: , , , 5 Comments

Every holiday I can remember my mother making cut out sugar cookies and decorating them for whatever the season.  She especially always made Halloween cookies and I would help her decorate them.  Now that I am far from home, I am continuing the tradition on my own. I made a big batch of these cookies to send with my boyfriend to work. Of course I wouldn’t let him take all of them because they are too delicious to give away!

You can really do any shapes sizes, sizes, or colors with this recipe and it’s my go to for a basic sugar cookie.  The recipe itself is actually very simple, and contains cream cheese. Really the hardest part about making these cookies is taking the time to decorate them. I myself get a little bit impatient towards the end of decorating, but hey I think they don’t look too shabby. Of course you can take the time to make them look more refined, but I don’t mind the rustic look to the decorations as that shows they are homemade. I decided to go with a bat, ghost, and pumpkin, classic Halloween!
