I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas! I know I did. I even got to experience my first white Christmas, which I was incredibly excited about. The snow was falling. And the drinks were flowing with family, which always makes for a great time. Not to mention all the food.

In honor of Christmas I made this gingerbread loaf this past week. (It’s been a crazy busy week so I’m only now getting around to posting it!). It’s still the season for winter favors and this gingerbread loaf fits right in.

White Chocolate Peppermint Biscotti

I think there are over a hundred recipes I could cook during the holiday season. Every time I try to think of something I want to cook during this time of year I spend about an hour trying to decide which one of my favorites I want to make next. Unfortunately there are not enough days in the week for me to make everything I want, also I would be very worried about my caloric intake if I made every Christmas goodie that came to my mind!

After my deliberations this week I decided to go with something that would help me use up some candy canes I bought. The result is this delicious white chocolate peppermint biscotti with a chocolate drizzle.

Chicken Tacos w/ Avocado Cream

Dinner By December 18, 2015 Tags: , , , No Comments

Tis’ the season for tacos? I’m not sure it is, but I sure have been seeing a lot of pictures of tacos on social media. It doesn’t take much for me to crave a food, so seeing tacos everywhere has triggered me to have a strong desire to make some. Hence why I am making tacos during the season typically meant for pot roasts, beef stews, and crockpot dishes.

Tacos of course are perfect for anytime of the year. Even with 10 inches of snow outside I felt they went perfectly with the weather and with a big glass of beer to warm me up!

Toffee w/ Chocolate & Sea Salt

I’m off to another cookie swap today and needed to do some more baking. After going to a cookie swap last weekend I decided the best cookie to bring to a cookie swap might be no cookie at all. I think adding a little variety to mix is good to add in between all the cookies. Also I am a little cookied out right now and felt like making something else. The answer to all these problems is this toffee recipe!

I love to make treats during the holidays that are simple and pack well as gifts. Similar to the sweet and spicy pecans, this toffee recipe is a crowd favorite and makes a great hostess gift if you can make it out of the house before it’s all gone.

Sweet & Spicy Pecans

Snacks By December 9, 2015 Tags: , , , , 4 Comments

I’m getting into the Christmas spirit this week since we finally got our Christmas tree up and decorated. I love the smell of the fresh pine and having lights to look at always puts me in a better mood. So I am getting into the holiday spirit in the kitchen as well which is what inspired me to make this recipe.

If there is one food constantly requested by my family and friends during the holidays it is these sweet and spicy pecans. I can never make enough and they are gone before I can even get them put away. The spiciness that follows the sweetness provides a kick that keeps you going back for more. These really are the perfect snack for around the holidays and make a great appetizer for cocktail hour.

I was originally inspired to make these spiced pecans after I tried some that one of my good friend’s mother made years ago. This is the best replication I have found of the recipe and it is a keeper. I guarantee if you make these people will be begging you for more!
